“Our God given unalienable rights are given to us all as individuals. They tell us what we may do for ourselves, and they are the embodiment of liberty.
The so-called rights that government gives to some of us are parcelled out to select groups as classes. They tell us what one class of people may require another to do for them, and they are the very essence of slavery.”— Perri Nelson, February 9, 2010

Well, I'm not sure this was a good idea. So far I haven't been able to activate my copy of Windows Vista Ultimate. Every time I try, "Windows Explorer" encounters a problem and has to close. Downloading and installing updates took forever too.
Visual Studio 2003 runs, but for some reason I can't run my local test copy of the blog software. That's going to make debugging the blog a pain.
My TV-Wonder VE card works, but the audio doesn't. I'm not sure what's up with that yet. The audio drivers don't seem to recognize the "line-in" input.
My Snapscan 1212u scanner (from Agfa) doesn't have a device driver that works with Windows Vista either. Agfa stopped supporting their scanners in 2001. It looks like I'm going to have to install it on one of the other computers, or scrap it and buy a new scanner.
I haven't managed to activate Office 2007 yet either. Something odd is going on there.
More later, but so far, this isn't exactly a promising upgrade
Update: At least now Windows Live Writer is working again on my main machine.
Update 2: The TV-Wonder VE card works with audio when I'm recording, but not when I'm viewing TV. It seems that Vista thinks that the line-in input can only be used for recording, and not for playback. At least I'll be able to record TV shows now. Or transfer my VHS tapes to DVD for home use.
