For those we lost, We will not forget 09/11/2001 “Our God given unalienable rights are given to us all as individuals. They tell us what we may do for ourselves, and they are the embodiment of liberty. The so-called rights that government gives to some of us are parcelled out to select groups as classes. They tell us what one class of people may require another to do for them, and they are the very essence of slavery.”

Almost spring open trackbacks

It's almost spring! Well... OK... so there's three weeks to go. I wanted to put up the spring theme for the site anyway.

North and East of Seattle got almost 10 inches of snow yesterday morning. That's a lot of snow... for this area... for this time of year... We had maybe a 1/4 inch here in Covington. I guess that's a pretty good reminder that it's still winter.

I still wanted to brighten things up a bit, so I'm introducing the spring theme change a bit early. Why not? After all if the government can decide to mess around with our clocks and screw up our software by changing when Daylight Savings Time starts, why can't I mess around with the look of my site?

The new colors have been up for a day or so, now you get the new site header. I'm not sure about this one yet, but until I find something better to photograph this one will have to do. I think it goes well with the site colors anyway.

Commenter UI modified

Published Thu, Mar 1 2007 8:19 AM

Too many people are having consistent trouble commenting using the FreeTextBox control I use for posting and commenting. I think it may be related to using it in the Rich Editing mode, so I've switched it over to the basic TEXTAREA display. I don't allow very much formatting of comments anyway, so the control was probably overkill, at least for commenting.

I've never had a problem using it for posting. That's why I don't understand why it sometimes doesn't work for commenting. And I have had problems using it for commenting myself.

Hopefully now I'll see fewer empty comments.

On the plus side, using the TEXTAREA instead of the Rich Editing mode seems to fix some rendering problems on 800x600 displays.

No wonder its "climate change" now...

Published Thu, Mar 1 2007 7:44 AM

Blizzard conditions in the Midwest. Must be global warming... er... "climate change".

And this morning, snow in Covington.

A light dusting of snow

Sure, it's just a light dusting of snow and it'll be melted off by the time I get home from work. Even so, I've seen more snow at home this year than any year that I've lived in Washington.

Yep, must be global... cooling.

OK. So it's local and not global. It's still fun. smile_shades

It's March 1, 2007 and this is your daily open trackbacks post.

Soon (sooner than I'd like) we'll be winding our clocks forward an hour and losing an hour of sleep. I doubt that we'll actually be saving any daylight, or much energy because of it.

Soon lots of plants will be spreading their reproductive tissues upon the winds and it'll be time for allergy medications. At least the days will keep getting longer for a while.

If you have something interesting you'd like to share, feel free to link it here and leave a trackback.
