For those we lost, We will not forget 09/11/2001 “Our God given unalienable rights are given to us all as individuals. They tell us what we may do for ourselves, and they are the embodiment of liberty. The so-called rights that government gives to some of us are parcelled out to select groups as classes. They tell us what one class of people may require another to do for them, and they are the very essence of slavery.”

A few minor site updates

I made a few minor updates to the site code today and run a few tests, and they seem to work. Please report any site bugs to me at perri at perrinelson dot com.

I've updated the AKismet handler to give me more useful information when AKismet rejects a ping or a comment, and I've simplified the interface that allows me to update AKismet and restore pings or comments that have been rejected. This should be completely transparent to all of you.

I've also fixed a bug that's been annoying me for a couple of months. My settings for the site are supposed to have five posts per page, with one "sticky" post on the front page. The "sticky" post was working fine, but the front page was only showing four posts instead of five. All other pages were showing five posts. The front page's fifth post was not showing up at all, unless you happened to link directly to it.

It finally got annoying enough for me to fix it.

Next up, I've changed the recent comments widget in the sidebar. Instead of including the full comment text in the widget, It will show the commenter's name as a link to the comment, and each entry will simply say who commented and on what post. You will be able to click on the post title to view the entire post.

Speaking of comments, I've been thinking about comment notification as well as post notification. Currently I don't send any notifications when content on the site has updated, except by pinging technorati, blogrolling.com and feedburner. I'm thinking of changing that, but I don't want to spam anyone.

So tell me... in the comments please... If I added the option to subscribe via email to the comments on a particular post would that be something you'd want? How about an option to subscribe to posting notifications in general?

Are there other features you'd like to see implemented?

Just let me know.
