The Kent Education Association is a criminal organization

The leaders of the Kent Educational Association belong in jail. In the State of Washington, public school teachers are considered public employees. Public employees in Washington have no legal right to strike. School was supposed to begin on August 31, 2009, and yet it still has not begun.
This disrupts parent’s schedules, as well as requires the school term to be extended into the summer to make up for the lost time. This further inconveniences parents and students expecting to be able to plan their vacations during the summer.
State law requires that parents ensure that their children attend school. Teachers are hired to teach children, and claim that their actions are in the student’s interest, yet by striking they are neglecting their duty to teach the children. Who suffers? The children.
On Thursday, a judge ruled that the strike was illegal, ordering the teachers to go back to work on Tuesday the 8th. Teachers decided though to continue their strike and are now in contempt of court. I think that this is evidence that the Kent Education Association is nothing more than a criminal organization with the goal of extracting money from taxpayers to use for political purposes.
The leadership of the Kent Education Association should be put in jail and the union disbanded. In fact, I think that ALL teachers unions in the state should be disbanded. They have shown time and again that their goals do not align with the goals of parents to provide students with a good education.
Strikers held a “parent support” rally not too long ago, as if what they were doing would be helpful to the parents. I thought then that the concept was a crock of excrement. After all, their demands ultimately extort more funding from the parents, leaving the students out of school in the meantime. Smaller class size? That means more teachers – more dues for the Kent Education Association to spend on their political agenda. And smaller class size does not mean better education. Less time in meetings? Just another euphemism for less work – from people that make more money than the average citizen in the state – and only work 9 months out of the year at that.
Today, students were standing on street corners carrying signs telling the teachers to get back to work. How about that? The kids know more about what’s right than the teachers.

 | There should be plenty of room in the Fort Lewis Stockade and the Brig at NavBase Seattle. BTW, it used to be NAS Sand Point. It would no doubt, give them pause to reconsider. |
